All Chesapeake Public Schools are accredited by State SOL Accreditation. There are six public high schools, 10 public middle schools, and twenty eight elementary schools in Chesapeake. Additionally, there are currently three special centers for education. Currently there over 40,000 students enrolled in Chesapeake public schools.
Chesapeake Area Attractions
Among the many attractions are:
- the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, which links the Chesapeake Bay to North Carolina’s sounds, thereby providing a connection between Boston and Key West, Florida
- the Chesapeake Arboretum, containing 48-acres and featuring a mature hardwood forest as well as an 18th Century farmhouse with theme gardens
- the Chesapeake City Park ,covering 75 acres, 45 of which are cleared and features a skate park, Fun Forest playground for children, a venue for Symphony Under the Stars, as well as the annual Chesapeake Jubilee
- the Chesapeake Planetarium at the Municipal Center offers free public programs, including telescope observations; plus, there are many other features of the area to fill up your activities calendar.
For shopping in Chesapeake, there are plenty of opportunities at the Portlock Galleries in South Norfolk or in one of the antique shops. For more traditional shopping, try one of several malls, as well as specialty shops which offer gift and souvenir shopping. Some of the best shopping areas are located in the Greenbrier and Western Branch districts, Including the Greenbrier shopping mall in Greenbrier, and Chesapeake Square mall in the Western Branch district.
