The Hampton Roads area has public transportation, the Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) which provides regional public transportation service both within and between the major cities of the Hampton Roads area: Hampton, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Newport News and Suffolk. Services are available for getting to and from most of the major attractions and amenities.
Education
The Virginia Beach City Public Schools is the second largest school system in Virginia and serves approximately 74,700 students. There are 55 elementary schools, 15 middle schools, 11 high schools as well as a number of secondary/post secondary specialty schools and a number of private and independent schools within the city.
Old Dominion University, University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech operate satellite campuses in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach is also home to other universities and colleges, including Virginia Wesleyan,Tidewater Community College, and Regent University . The latter being a private university, founded by Evangelist Pat Robertson, has focused on graduate education, but more recently established an undergraduate program as well. The Atlantic University, which is associated with Edgar Cayce, offers M.A. degrees in Transpersonal Studies.
